Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, small-group, classroom-based, and crisis supports for social-emotional, behavioral, attendance, and school adjustment needs.

Position Summary

The Elementary School Social Worker is responsible for supporting the social-emotional, behavioral, and academic success of students within the general education setting. Working collaboratively with students, families, teachers, administrators, and other school-based professionals, the School Social Worker provides prevention, early intervention, and targeted supports designed to remove barriers to learning and promote student success.

The School Social Worker serves as an integral member of the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) team and assists in identifying student needs, developing and implementing interventions, monitoring student progress, and connecting students and families with appropriate school and community resources. The position also supports the development of a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and supportive elementary school environment.

Education and Certification Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities

Employee duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides individual, small-group, classroom-based, and crisis supports to address students' social-emotional, behavioral, attendance, and school adjustment needs while supporting schoolwide efforts related to positive behavior, belonging, school climate, and student wellness.
  • Serves as an active member of the building's MTSS process, collaborating with staff to identify student needs; develop and implement Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 interventions; monitor student progress; and adjust supports based on student response and available data.
  • Collaborates and consults with teachers, administrators, families, and other school professionals to identify barriers to learning and develop proactive strategies and individualized supports, including Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), when appropriate.
  • Partners with families and community agencies to strengthen home-school relationships, connect students and families with appropriate resources, and address barriers related to attendance, engagement, behavior, mental health, and academic success.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential records and demonstrates knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and district procedures related to school social work, confidentiality, student and parent rights, child welfare, and mental health.
  • Participates in building and district professional learning and collaborative teams, effectively manages time and resources to meet student and building needs, and performs other duties consistent with the role of a general education School Social Worker as assigned.
