Job summary

Howard County Public School System seeks a proven educational leader to serve as an elementary principal. The role oversees the total school program, ensures instructional excellence, and drives equity-centered improvements aligned with the district’s strategic plan.

The principal will supervise staff, manage resources, and collaborate with central office to support student achievement. Applicants should bring a strong record of leadership, data use, and commitment to inclusive education.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• MSDE professional certificate or license in an MSDE licensure area (or eligible through endorsed paths).
• Five years of experience as a certificated/licensed educator, including two years at elementary level.
• Three years of school-based or central office administrator experience, including two years as a school-based administrator.

Responsibilities

• Provides effective leadership in the total operation of the school and implementation of the system’s mission.
• Articulates goals of the board and demonstrates understanding of the district's Educational Equity policy.
• Attains high performance from all personnel and develops strategies to improve student achievement.
• Uses data to develop and monitor school improvement plans and allocate resources.
• Promotes student voice and restorative practices to support a positive school culture.
• Collaborates with instructional staff to guide professional development and evaluate instruction.
• Oversees hiring, supervision, and evaluation of personnel including administrative staff.
• Ensures compliance with state and county policies and manages school budgets and resources.
