Job summary

Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School in Worcester, MA seeks an Elementary School Librarian to foster reading, support curriculum, and manage a resource-rich library. The role requires a DESE library license, SEI endorsement, and 3+ years’ experience with elementary students, along with a commitment to an inclusive learning space.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts DESE License as Library Media Specialist or related.
• SEI Endorsement required for state compliance.
• Master's in Library Science or related field.
• At least three years with elementary-aged children.
• Experience with online resources, databases, and digital literacy tools.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with students, staff and families.
• Organizational and time-management abilities.
• Commitment to an inclusive and equitable library space.

Responsibilities

• Model the mission and character virtues of the school.
• Promote a love of reading and lifelong learning.
• Exhibit strong knowledge of literature and current trends.
• Manage the library media center operations and resources.
• Circulate books using the district's automation system.
• Maintain bookshelves and proper order.
• Learn and apply library automation functions as needed.
• Generate overdue notices and handle replacements.
• Fulfill teacher requests for materials and track unfulfilled requests.
• Collaborate with teachers on print and web materials.
• Align library lessons with grade-level curriculum.
• Evaluate and develop the library collection for diversity.
• Weed outdated materials and perform repairs as needed.
• Develop and manage the library budget.
• Process orders for materials and classroom sets.
• Participate in faculty meetings and professional development.
• Train and oversee volunteers.
