Job summary

Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School is seeking an Elementary School Librarian to foster a love of reading, support curriculum development, and maintain a well-organized library. You will collaborate with educators to integrate literacy and research skills across classrooms and ensure students develop information literacy competencies.

The role involves managing the library, circulating materials, and aligning collections with curricular needs.

Qualifications

• Licensed librarian with DESE credentials (Library Media Specialist or equivalent).
• SEI Endorsement required for compliance with state regulations.
• Master’s degree in Library Science or related field.
• Teacher preparation program completed or educational degree.
• At least three years of elementary school library experience.
• Experience with online resources, databases, and digital literacy tools.

Responsibilities

• Model the mission and character virtues of the school.
• Promote a love of reading and lifelong learning.
• Exhibit knowledge of literature and current trends in children’s reading.
• Manage the library media center and organize materials.
• Circulate books using the district’s library system.
• Maintain organization of shelves and proper order.
• Apply library system functions as needed.
• Generate overdue notices and manage returns/replacements.
• Fulfill teacher requests for materials and track unfulfilled requests.
• Collaborate with teachers to recommend print and online materials.
• Align library lessons with grade-level curricula.
• Evaluate and develop the library collection for diversity and relevance.
• Weed outdated materials and perform repairs as needed.
• Develop and manage the library budget.
• Process orders for library materials and classroom sets.
• Participate in faculty meetings and professional development.
• Train and oversee volunteers as needed.
