Job summary

Join Delaware Schools Consortium is seeking an Elementary School Counselor to provide guidance, counseling, coordination, and information services. The role supports parent involvement, community relations, program evaluation and curriculum support.

The counselor will interpret standardized data, assist in identifying student needs, and work with staff to promote student growth and improve educational outcomes across the school community.

Qualifications

• Must hold or be eligible for Elementary School Counselor certification by the State of Delaware.
• At least 3 years of elementary-level professional experience, or 1 full year internship in a K-5 setting as part of a graduate counseling program.
• Ability to cooperate with staff, parents/guardians, administration and community resource people.
• Ability to develop rapport with students.
• Ability to analyze and offer problem-solving techniques.
• Empathy and understanding of students' concerns.
• Possess teaching skills to administer developmental guidance curriculum; strong organizational skills; computer literacy; and knowledge of developmental guidance philosophy.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in evaluating aptitudes via standardized test scores and relevant data.
• Identify and develop students' special abilities.
• Work to resolve students' educational handicaps.
• Help prevent students from dropping out of school.
• Provide readily available counseling leading to personal growth and maturity.
• Counsel individuals on personal problems including home and family relations, health and emotional adjustment.
• Maintain confidentiality and manage student health, attendance, progress, and transcript records.
• Assist in orientation of new faculty members.
• Provide in-service guidance training for teachers and student teachers.
• Collaborate with staff to explain services offered by student personnel services.
• Advise administrators and faculty on student discipline and interpret school objectives to students, parents, and the community.
