Job summary

Douglas County School District in Colorado is seeking an Elementary Counselor to design and implement a school guidance curriculum and provide individual planning, responsive services, and systems support.

Collaborate with staff, parents, and the community to create a supportive climate that helps students achieve academic success and address diverse personal and developmental challenges.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in counseling.
• Colorado Special Service Provider License - School Counseling.
• Licensure by Colorado Department of Education.

Responsibilities

• Encourage two-way communication to promote the school counseling program.
• Document health related services in Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program as assigned.
• Refer and connect students to appropriate resources to enhance learning and development.
• Work collaboratively within the school environment and with appropriate stakeholders to advance the goals of the Counseling Program.
• Provide information to students and parents regarding academic progress, counseling programs, community resources, etc.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
• Use assessment data to measure student learning and academic growth and analyze results in planning counseling decisions.
• Align the counseling program to school goals (School Improvement Plan).
• Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
• Deliver counseling services through classroom guidance lessons, small groups and individual counseling.
• Demonstrate age-appropriate counseling practices that meet academic and personal/social needs.
• Assist in coordinating district and state testing programs.
• Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling practice and program.
• Maintain community partnerships to support students and their families.
• Support students in the successful transition from each grade level into the next phase.
• Manage a counseling program in order to encourage and support academic achievement and personal/social development.
• Customize counseling services to meet individual student and school needs.
• Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social or behavioral problems affecting their education.
