The Wethersfield Public Schools partner with the community and families in fostering our students’ ongoing education in a safe and engaging learning environment. Highcrest Elementary School is seeking a motivated and dedicated professional to serve as our Principal. The position is vital to our school as this leader has regular and influential interaction with all students, staff, parents/families, community members, and our district’s administrative team.

Compensation:$150,842 – $171,576 (annual salary will be pro-rated)

The Highcrest Elementary School Principal will partner closely with school/district administrative teams and school-based leaders to prepare every student for social, emotional and academic success, and will serve a critical role in implementing the school and district vision of teaching and learning.

In this role, our Principal will fulfill the following responsibilities and duties:

  • Model collaborative leadership with a collaborative, transparent, and inclusive style that supports high student outcomes and educational excellence;
  • Guide and implement the district curriculum and vision for teaching and learning through the implementation of the School Improvement Plan aligned to the District Improvement and Strategic Plan;
  • Drive student success by monitoring and continuously improving teaching/learning through schoolwide data teams and collaborative planning within the building, ensuring alignment with district, state and national standards of excellence;
  • Provide leadership in the recruitment, selection, supervision and evaluation of certified and non-certified staff members, ensuring a highly effective learning environment is at the core of all staffing activities and decisions;
  • Ensure equitable access to resources is available to all students/families, and collaborate with families and the community to respond to diverse community interests and needs;
  • Demonstrate experience in building partnerships and resources for a school and a willingness to work with various community partners;
  • Create and sustain a school culture committed to strong values, beliefs and practices that are aligned with Wethersfield’s mission and vision;
  • Provide leadership and oversight of various school committees to support instruction, assessment, professional development, and support programs;
  • Continuously communicate and be available to parents, families and the community;
  • Provide leadership in the organization, supervision and operation of the school and in the implementation of all Board of Education policies along with federal and state mandates and regulations policies (IDEA, 504, Title IX, SRBI,etc.);
  • Promote an inclusive and restorative approach to school wide student expectations and behavior management and implement a multi-tiered system of support;
  • Demonstrate experience building a positive school climate and culturally responsive practices;
  • Lead the creation and delivery of professional development activities aligned to school goals and student achievement;
  • Oversee the ongoing analysis of school/district data related to achievement, behavior, attendance, culture and climate, data teams and other forms of data, and the use of this data to drive student achievement and school wide improvement;
  • Provide departmental leadership for various disciplines;
  • Develop and manage a building based budget aligned to school/district goals and that promotes student academic success and well-being;
  • Work with all staff to ensure a safe school climate and oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of school safety procedures aligned to local and state requirements;
  • Hold high expectations of themself and staff to ensure educational professionalism, ethics, integrity, justice, and fairness;
  • Model high level of personal accountability for student growth, academic results, and staff performance.
Qualifications:
  • Hold Connecticut Professional Educator Certification – Intermediate Administration & Supervision(092);
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior administrator experience, or commensurate leadership experience;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience;
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills to lead staff, students, families and members of the school community;
  • Demonstrated success in the development, evaluation and implementation of curriculum and instruction;
  • Demonstrated success in the areas of team engagement, fostering improved school climate, enhancing student assessment;
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology for data analysis and understand its application to student learning;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing school improvement efforts and supervising staff;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and treat information confidentially;
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively with staff, parents, students and the public;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with a sense of urgency, and with accuracy;
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
