Job summary

Norwalk Community School District is seeking a Part-Time Recess Para at Orchard Hills Elementary in Norwalk, Iowa. You will support certified staff, supervise students during lunch and play, and assist with classroom activities to promote instructional goals.

The role emphasizes assisting with special needs, field trips, and parent communication, while maintaining safety and positive behavior in a school setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with students with special needs is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction and other skills.
• Assist staff in administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and keep students on task.
• Supervise non-instructional areas such as lunch, bus duty, playground, study hall and corridors.
• Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
• Prepare and distribute educational materials as needed.
• Assist with parent contact to foster involved participation in education.
• Support students with special needs to maximize inclusion and learning outcomes.
• Assist daily living activities for students with disabilities to maximize participation.
