Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s degree preferred).
• Licensed as a School Librarian or Unified Media Specialist by the MA Department of Education, or in the licensure process.
• Candidates with Elementary Education licensure may be considered if enrolled in Unified Media Specialist program.
• Recent coursework in contemporary library science methods.

Responsibilities

• Directly report to the Principals.
• Operate and supervise the school library.
• Evaluate, select, and requisition new library materials.
• Assist teachers in selecting books and materials for instruction.
• Inform staff about new library acquisitions.
• Maintain cataloging system and train staff/students.
• Arrange interlibrary loans for teachers.
• Collaborate with teachers on assignments utilizing library resources.
• Promote appropriate student conduct in library areas.
• Help students develop independent reference skills.
• Present materials to classes on topic-related studies.
• Participate in curriculum meetings.
• Arrange engaging library displays.
• Prepare and administer the library budget.
• Supervise library aides.
• Participate in professional associations and activities.
