Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools in Tacoma, WA is seeking a school crossing guard to monitor crosswalks and assist elementary students in crossing streets safely. Start date is as soon as possible; pay rate is $17.35/hour.

Hours per day and the schedule will be determined by the building administrator, up to 2 hours per day, possibly split before and after school. Responsibilities include stopping traffic with a flag, monitoring student behavior, reporting unsafe actions, and performing related duties.

Qualifications

• Crosswalk safety knowledge and the ability to supervise students near traffic.
• Completion of district training for school crossing guards is highly desirable.
• Ability to work cooperatively with building staff and maintain student relationships.

Responsibilities

• Stops oncoming traffic using a flag to permit student crossing and notes gaps in traffic to minimize disruption.
• Monitors students' behavior and remains alert for unsafe situations to prevent accidents or injuries.
• Reports inappropriate student behavior and vehicles that fail to stop when signaled.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
