Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a School Crossing Guard to help elementary students cross safely at designated crosswalks. The role involves monitoring traffic, signaling with a flag, and ensuring student safety before and after school.

The position supports the daily safety of students, operates outdoors in various weather, and may have shifts up to two hours per day as determined by the building administrator.

Qualifications

• Completion of district training for school crossing guards is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of crosswalk safety policies and procedures.
• Ability to work cooperatively with building staff.
• Ability to exercise fairness in dealing with students.
• Ability to build relationships in a diverse, multicultural setting.

Responsibilities

• Stops oncoming traffic using a flag to permit student cross and notes gaps to minimize disruption.
• Monitors students’ activities and behavior while approaching crosswalk and stays alert for unsafe situations.
• Reports inappropriate student behavior and vehicles that fail to stop when signaled.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
