Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a crossing guard to monitor elementary student crosswalks and assist with safe street crossing. The role involves standing at designated crosswalks, signaling traffic with a flag, and ensuring student safety during arrival and departure periods.

Hours are limited by the building administrator, up to a maximum of 2 hours per day, with possible split shifts before and after school. Training in district procedures is highly desirable for this position.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of building policies and procedures related to crosswalk safety.
• Ability to work cooperatively with building staff.
• Ability to exercise fairness in dealing with students.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective work and student relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting.

Responsibilities

• Stops traffic using a flag to allow students to cross the street safely.
• Monitors students' behavior near the crosswalk to prevent accidents.
• Reports inappropriate student behavior and drivers that fail to stop when signaled.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
