Job summary

Somerset Academy Lakes is seeking an Elementary School Counselor to support the academic, social, and emotional development of students in grades K–5. The role includes individual and small group counseling, collaboration with teachers and families, and helping to foster a positive and inclusive school culture.

The ideal candidate will have experience with elementary-aged children and a strong understanding of child development, behavior, and social-emotional learning.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in School Counseling or in progress preferred.
• Florida certification in School Counseling or eligibility to obtain.
• Experience with elementary students (K–5).
• Strong understanding of child development, behavior, and SEL.
• Experience providing individual and small group counseling.

Somerset Academy Lakes is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Elementary School Counselor to support the academic, social, and emotional development of students in grades K–5. The ideal candidate has experience working with elementary-aged children and a strong understanding of child development, behavior, and social-emotional learning. This role includes providing individual and small group counseling, supporting students through challenges, collaborating with teachers and families, and helping to create a positive and inclusive school culture.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in school counseling, psychology, education, or a related field (Master’s degree in School Counseling preferred or in progress).
• Florida certification in School Counseling (or eligibility to obtain).
• Prior experience working with elementary-aged students (K–5), preferably in a school setting.
• Strong understanding of child development, behavior management, and social-emotional learning.
• Experience providing individual and small group counseling services.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and families.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience supporting MTSS/RTI processes and student intervention planning.
• Knowledge of crisis response and student support protocols.
• Active participation as a member of the school’s Threat Assessment Team, including identifying, assessing, and supporting students of concern.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with professionalism.
• Demonstrated commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
