Job summary

Newport News Public Schools seeks a Program Specialist for the BASE program to support daily operations of a short-term, intensive behavior redirection initiative for elementary students in grades K–3. You will collaborate with teachers, school leaders, families, and community partners to ensure high-quality instruction, positive behavior supports, and effective transitions back to home schools.

The role emphasizes monitoring progress, coordinating supports, aligning with SOL, NNPS

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree and Virginia Postgraduate Professional License or licensure eligibility.
• Minimum of 3 years of full-time elementary teaching experience.
• Experience in alternative education or behavior intervention preferred.
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training with restraint certification.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with staff, families and administrators to support student placement and transitions.
• Plans and implements instructional and behavioral supports aligned with SOLs and NNPS policies.
• Coaches staff in classroom management, crisis prevention and positive behavior supports.
• Provides data collection/analysis on academics, attendance and behavior to guide interventions.
• Coordinates services with principals and central office to support program improvement.
• Communicates with families and community partners to reinforce positive student behavior.
• Assists with budget and resource management for program operations.
• Represents the program as a K–3 alternative and behavioral supports resource.
