Job summary

MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions in Bridgeport, CT, seeks a Chemist or Chemical Engineer to lead electroplating chemistry development for semiconductor and advanced packaging. This hands-on role focuses on developing and optimizing electroplating chemistries and processes with close teamwork across R&D, applications, product management, and manufacturing.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or closely related field; M.S. preferred.
• 3–5 years of electroplating, semiconductor wet processing, or related R&D experience preferred.
• Hands-on electroplating/electrodeposition or wet chemical processes experience preferred.
• Knowledge of electrochemistry and materials science desirable.
• Semiconductor/advanced packaging experience (TSV, RDL, damascene, hybrid bonding) a plus.
• DOE, statistics, data analytics, programming, automation, or AI-assisted tools a plus.
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Synthesis skills in plating organic polymer additives a plus; small hood-scale reactors experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety standards and contribute to a strong laboratory safety culture.
• Conduct hands-on electroplating chemistry and process development, including formulation and analysis.
• Develop and optimize electroplating technologies for semiconductor and packaging applications.
• Apply electrochemistry and materials science to understand plating mechanisms and deposit properties.
• Design and execute DOE to optimize chemistry formulations and process conditions.
• Utilize statistics, data analytics, automation, and AI-assisted tools to accelerate experiments.
• Characterize materials with analytical techniques and collaborate with analytical teams.
• Document results, troubleshoot challenges, and communicate conclusions and recommendations.
• Collaborate with R&D, Applications, Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, and others to support development and scale-up.
• Maintain accurate lab records and documentation.
