Job summary

State of North Carolina - Department of Transportation is seeking an Electronics Technician III to troubleshoot and repair traffic signal control equipment and ITS devices across the state. You will use diagnostic software and test equipment, perform firmware updates, and implement modifications to extend functionality.

The role requires knowledge of electrical engineering principles, the ability to read schematics, and experience with soldering components.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in electronics and 3 years of progressive experience in repair and maintenance of complex electronic systems.
• Ability to read and analyze schematic diagrams and maintenance manuals to troubleshoot down to component level.
• Experience removing and replacing soldered components (through-hole, surface mount, BGA) and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot malfunctioning Traffic Signal Control Equipment and ITS devices using specialized test equipment.
• Replace defective electronic components and reprogram firmware as needed.
• Evaluate equipment for compliance and modify cabinets to add safety-related features; perform statewide deployments and occasional travel.
