Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology preferred.
  • Registry eligibility preferred.
  • Registered Cardiovascular Technologist preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 months EKG experience preferred.
  • Must be able to perform an EKG during interview.
  • AHA/CPR certification required (BLS).
  • Must visualize EKG tracing on screen and paper.
  • Must transport EKG machine to bedside and place electrodes.
  • Ability to use computer for EKG storage/retrieval.
  • Clear communication with patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all types of electrocardiograms on patients from infant to geriatric.
  • Adhere to iCare standards and hospital policies.
  • Follow safety and hand hygiene protocols and quality improvement practices.
  • Recognize safety issues and report equipment dysfunction promptly.
  • Participate in department safety education and training.
  • Assist with handoff communications per policy.
  • Ensure patient safety and accurate EKG procedure.

Job Description

As a member of the Health Care Team, performs all of the variedtypes of electrocardiograms on infant, pediatric, adolescent, adultand geriatric patients.

  • Employee is expected to adhere to UTMC Service Values alwaysincluding iCare standards.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures as well as addressespatient safety, performance improvement, and quality of careissues.
  • 1. Adheres to NPSG 09.02.01 by following the Morse Fall Scale toassess all patients for their risk of falling.
  • 2. Adheres to NPSG 07.01.01 by effectively washing hands when goingfrom one patient to the next.
  • Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues.Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handlesincidents per institutional and/or departmental policies andprocedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues werehandled timely and appropriately.
  • Department education and training focus has a direct impact onpatient safety and reduces unsafe working conditions foret employees.
  • Employee attends and follows all department specific safetyeducation and training in an effort to create a safe workenvironment.
  • 1. Recognizes Frayed Cord:
  • Reports equipment dysfunction in timely manner.
  • Make sure alternate process is in place and action is taken.
  • Reduces adverse results or impact to patient care and theemployee.
  • 2. Recognize exposure to Blood:
  • Worked as a team to limit exposure and create a safe workenvironment.
  • Safety concerns: The manager has been timely with staff trainingand education.
  • Wiping up spills.
  • 3. Follows standardized approach for handoff communication
  • Follows policy for communication including the opportunity to askand respond to questions.
Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Indicate minimumrequired to qualify or perform this job.)

  • Required Education/Experience/Licensing:
  • 1. Completion of first year of Cardiovascular Technology schoolingwith completion of EKG externship
  • preferred
  • 2. Working toward or completion of associate degree inCardiovascular Technology preferred.
  • 3. Registry eligibility in Cardiovascular Technologypreferred.
  • 4. Registered Cardiovascular Technologist preferred.
  • 5. Minimum of 3 months actual work experience in the performance ofEKGs preferred.
  • 6. Must be able to perform an EKG as part of an interview processfor job.
  • 7. AHA/CPR certification required in Basic Life Support Health CareProvider course as identified by the Heart and VascularCenter/Cardiology Clinic policy.
  • 8. Must be able to visualize an EKG tracing on a computer screenand on paper.
  • 9. Must be able to transport EKG machine to the bedside and toproperly place electrodes.
  • 10. Must be capable of using computer keyboard to access the EKGstorage and retrieval system.
  • 11. Ability to communicate clearly for patientsunderstanding.
