Associate degree or equivalent in electronics or related field; 1.5 years of related experience may substitute for education.
Four years of related experience or completion of an approved apprenticeship recognized by US DOL.

Responsibilities

Performs technical functions supporting engineering activities.
Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains equipment following schematics and plans.
Tests in development mode and determines actions to correct malfunctions or design problems.
Recommends modifications to engineering designs as necessary.
Assists in design, construction, test and checkout of test equipment.
Fabricates custom support equipment from steel, aluminum, wood and plywood for voice/data systems installation.
Install, remove, and replace CCTV and webcam systems for spacecraft, payload, and security ops.
Set up and operate video equipment and portable sound reinforcement.
Perform software upgrades on sustaining systems.
Install and maintain handheld, fixed, and mobile RF radios.

Job Summary:

The Voice Systems Electronic Technician installs, tests, repairs, fire‑stops, and maintains unified power systems, converters (DC to AC or vice versa), battery plant, amplifiers, mixers, cable rack fabrication, spacing and installation, radio antenna and grounding, build and installs cable harnesses. Applications may include analog, digital, and/or video circuits and logic systems. The Electronic Technician will normally be assigned in areas such as development, engineering, test equipment, system checkout, fabrication, and the like. The chosen candidate will work on all voice systems at Kennedy Space Center, including OIS-M, OIS-Q2, PAWS, and Radios.

This is a represented staff position with the IBEW Union.

Duties/Responsibilities

Performs technical functions supporting engineering activities.
Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems; works from documentation, written or verbal instructions, schematics, rough sketches, diagrams, layouts, and plans, often requiring interpretation and application of comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of electronic theory and principles.
Conducts testing in a development mode and determines methods or actions to correct malfunctions or design problems.
Recommends modifications to engineering designs as necessary.
May assist in the design, construction, test, and checkout of test equipment.
Using steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, wood, and plywood stock, fabricate custom support equipment for use in installing voice and data systems.
Install, remove, control, and replace serial digital closed‑circuit surveillance television and webcam systems in support of spacecraft, payload, and security operations.
Install setup and operate video equipment and portable sound reinforcement.
Perform software upgrades on sustaining systems.
Install and maintain handheld, fixed, and mobile radio frequency (RF) radios.

Required Minimum Education and Years of Experience:

Associate of Science*or Technical Trade School* in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field. Experience may be substituted for Education: 1.5 years of related experience is equivalent to 1 year of formal education.
Four (4) years of related experience or successful completion of a State- or Military-approved bona fide work‑related apprenticeship program recognized by the US Department of Labor.

Required Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, Certifications, etc.:

Employees working at this level typically require an understanding of electrical theory, exercising independent judgment in performing circuit diagnostics and analysis.
Workers must be able to read and have a comprehensive understanding of electronic schematics.
Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to pass a NASA background investigation.
Must be able to pass an initial and random drug test.
Must have and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements

Requires working indoors and outdoors.
Outdoor conditions may include cold and hot temperatures, high humidity, and windy conditions.
Certain job assignments require special precautions and/or protective gear or clothing due to potential risk from sources such as moving machinery, chemicals, and electrical hazards; working from special rigging; working from heights, climbing ladders and other work platforms, and working in confined and small spaces restricting physical movement.
Often requires lifting to 35 - 50 pounds and working on uneven surfaces, and standing for long periods.
Requires repetitive movement, bending, stooping, twisting, and working in awkward positions.
Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Lighting conditions may be inadequate in some work locations.
Ability to recognize or interpret differences in wire and cable colors.
Ability to receive and transmit auditory information using telecommunication or electronic devices.
May require working 2nd or 3rd Shift.
