Novant Health is hiring an Electronic Medical Records Specialist to support the Health Information Management department at Mint Hill Medical Center. The role focuses on ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and compliance of patient health records, with a weekend onsite schedule and collaboration across HIM teams.

You will manage EMR workflows, perform ROI tasks, and provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders while ensuring HIPAA compliance and data integrity.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 3+ years of equivalent experience in similar roles or RHIT/RHIA in lieu of experience.
• RHIT credentials and 2-year/Associate degree preferred; EPIC EHR and Hyland OnBase scanning experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform discharge unit rounding and quality compliance reviews; prep, scan, and index documents into EMR systems (HIMSS7 unit scanning).
• Provide department phone coverage and secure patient records; monitor information management standards.
• Handle on-site ROI tasks for walk-in requests and continuity of care; assist with incoming mail.

As an Electronic Medical Records Specialist, you’ll be part of a team of HIM professionals dedicated to ensuring the integrity, accessibility, and compliance of patient health records. You’ll play a critical role in supporting patient care by driving accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to regulations across the HIM function. We offer:

What You’ll Do

• Location: ONSITE at Mint Hill Medical Center.
• Schedule: WEEKENDS Saturday and Sunday 8:00am – 12:00pm.
• Perform discharge unit rounding, quality compliance reviews, prepping, scanning, and indexing of medical documents into the electronic medical record (EMR) systems, including HIMSS7 unit scanning.
• Provide department phone coverage, order medical records from off‑site vendors and support accurate and secure patient records by monitoring and maintaining information management standards and systems.
• Perform on‑site release of information (ROI) tasks for walk‑in requests, continuity of care, and incoming mail.
• Deliver professional customer service to callers and visitors of the Health Information Management department, addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
• Support all on‑site Health Information Management (HIM) workflows within acute care settings, ensuring seamless departmental operations.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve workflow‑related issues and maintain efficient departmental operations.
• Adapt to additional HIM responsibilities as needed to support dynamic healthcare environments.

What We’re Looking For

Required:

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
• Experience: 3+ years of equivalent work experience with similar work assignments roles, and responsibilities or RHIT/RHIA in lieu of equivalent work experience.
• Additional Skills Required: Must possess excellent analytical skills and customer service skills. Ability to successfully complete generic and department‑specific skills validation and competency testing. Must have the ability to multitask and work independently with limited supervision. Must be able to meet standardized productivity metrics/goals. Should have a strong working knowledge of HIPAA requirements. Must be comfortable in a computer-based workflow. Must have a working knowledge and/or familiarity with acute care medical records and hospital regulatory environment. Ability to drive/travel to multiple locations/facilities as needed.

Preferred:

• RHIT credentials and 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred. Experience with the EPIC EHR and/or Hyland On Base scanning application.
