Job summary

UT Health Austin is seeking an Electromyographic (EMG) Technician to perform EMG testing and nerve conduction studies while supporting physicians in diagnosing neuromuscular disorders. You will educate patients, ensure comfort during testing, and help coordinate care in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience performing electromyography or neurodiagnostic testing.
  • Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT) or Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist (R. NCS.T.).

Responsibilities

  • Perform electromyography (EMG) testing and nerve conduction studies (NCS).
  • Prepare patients for testing and explain procedures.
  • Apply electrodes, operate diagnostic equipment, and document study results.
  • Provide physicians with accurate diagnostic data to support clinical decision-making.
  • Monitor patient comfort and safety throughout testing.
  • Record patient histories, vital signs, and clinical information.
  • Assist with patient mobility and clinical support as needed.
  • Administer medications and treatments under appropriate supervision.

About the Role

As an Electromyographic (EMG) Technician, you'll perform electromyography (EMG) testing and nerve conduction studies (NCS) while supporting physicians in the diagnosis and management of neuromuscular disorders. Beyond technical expertise, you'll help create a positive patient experience by educating patients, ensuring their comfort throughout testing, and contributing to the seamless coordination of care.

What You'll Do
Neurodiagnostic Testing
  • Perform electromyography (EMG) testing and nerve conduction studies (NCS)
  • Prepare patients for testing and explain procedures
  • Apply electrodes, operate diagnostic equipment, and document study results
  • Provide physicians with accurate diagnostic data to support clinical decision-making
  • Monitor patient comfort and safety throughout testing
  • Record patient histories, vital signs, and clinical information
  • Assist with patient mobility and clinical support as needed
  • Administer medications and treatments under appropriate supervision
Equipment & Quality
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot EMG and NCS equipment
  • Ensure diagnostic equipment meets quality and safety standards
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly equipped examination rooms
Care Coordination
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
  • Coordinate scheduling and patient flow
  • Collaborate with providers and administrative teams to support an exceptional patient experience
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of experience performing electromyography or neurodiagnostic testing
  • Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT) or Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist (R. NCS.T.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Neurodiagnostics or related field
  • Two years of clinical experience performing EMG and nerve conduction studies
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
