Job summary

Hitachi Energy USA Inc. in Raleigh, North Carolina is seeking a Project Engineer - Electromechanical to lead design activities for HVDC plant projects.

You will act as the design authority for electromechanical disciplines, delivering mechanical and electrical interfaces, 2D/3D drawings, BOMs, and installation packages for onshore and offshore stations. You will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, supervise installation activities, ensure safety compliance, and prepare project

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (or related field) with 3 years’ HVDC experience.
• Alternatively, a master’s degree with 1 year of related experience.
• Experience with power systems for HVDC stations is required.
• Experience with manufacturing/production processes and steel structures is preferred.
• Familiarity with SLDs and electrical standards (NEC, ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NFPA).
• Ability to write requirement specifications.
• Proficiency in 2D drafting and 3D modeling using AutoCAD, NX or Revit.
• Experience creating BOM/BOQ and engineering hours estimates.
• Strong communication to coordinate with customers, suppliers, or contractors.
• Safety-minded with risk mitigation and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Act as design authority for electromechanical discipline.
• Complete assignments on projects cost-effectively per contract specs and safety standards.
• Design mechanical plant for HVDC stations both onshore and offshore; CAD activities and 3D modelling.
• Create 2D drawings and 3D models for installation drawings and layouts.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers.
• Support site engineering and supervise installation of mechanical plant design scope.
• Prepare project documentation and interact with customers, suppliers, or contractors.
• Troubleshoot during design and installation phases.
• Ensure adherence to safety standards and mitigate risks.
