Job summary

Insight Global is seeking an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer to support a leading hardware engineering team in North San Jose, CA. This 12-month contract offers 100% onsite work, regular business hours, and hands-on EMC testing across diverse networking equipment.

Ideal candidates will have an Electrical Engineering degree and EMC/radio testing experience, with strong analytical, writing, and collaboration skills to ensure compliance with global standards.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree required.

• Experience with oscilloscopes, signal generators, power meters.
• Familiar with IXIA traffic generators and wideband testers.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform EMC compliance tests including radiated/conducted emissions and immunity, ESD, EFT, surge, voltage dips and interruptions, and related tests.
• Configure hardware and software to exercise EUT for EMC testing.
• Test networking equipment such as switches, routers, servers, access points, video equipment, IP phones, and security devices.
• Write Test Assessment Plan and EMC test reports using in-house tool.
• Follow EMC test procedures per EN/IEC 61000-4-x, 47 CFR Part 15, CISPR standards, and related regulations.
• Desirable knowledge of EN 301-489, IEC 60601-1-2, EN 50155/ EN 50121 series, NEBS GR-1089.

About the Role

Insight Global is seeking an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer to support one of our largest technology clients in North San Jose. This individual will join a leading Hardware Engineering organization and play a critical role in ensuring products meet global EMC regulatory and compliance standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with EMC compliance testing experience who enjoy hands-on laboratory work, technical problem-solving, and collaborating with engineering teams on cutting-edge hardware and networking technologies.

Responsibilities

• Daily activities consist of performing EMC compliance tests including Radiated and Conducted Emissions, Radiated and Conducted Immunity, ESD, Electrical Fast Transients, Surge, Voltage Dips and Interruptions, Magnetic Immunity, Harmonics Current Emissions and Flicker, etc.
• Configure hardware and software to exercise EUT (equipment under test) for EMC compliance testing.
• Work independently to perform EMC compliance testing of different networking equipment such as switches, routers, servers, access points, video equipment, IP telephones, and security devices.
• Responsible for writing Test Assessment Plan (TAP) and generating EMC test report using in-house report-generation tool.
• Be able to follow EMC test procedures in accordance with worldwide regulatory standards including but not limited to EN/IEC 61000-4-x series, 47 CFR Part 15, ICES, CISPR 24, CISPR 32, CISPR 35, VCCI, CNS 13438, KN 32, KN 35, EN 300 386, EN 55024, EN 55032.
• Desirable knowledge of standards including radio/wireless EN 301-498-x, medical IEC 60601-1-2, railway EN 50155/EN 50121-3-2/EN 50121-4, marine EN 60945/IEC 60533, smartgrid IEEE 1613/IEEE 1613.1/IEC 61850-3 and NEBS GR-1089.

Required Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree
• EMC and/or Radio Testing experience.
• Experience using test and measurement equipment, including:
• EMI Receivers or Spectrum Analyzers or Oscilloscopes or Signal Generators or Power Amplifiers or Power Meters
• Experience with IXIA traffic generators and wideband communication testers.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent technical writing and documentation abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision.

Experience with additional compliance standards is highly desirable, including:
