Job summary

Fresh Consulting in Costa Mesa, CA is seeking a Sr. EMC Engineer to design, test, and validate EMC/EMI solutions for defense and space hardware.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with MIL-STD and regulatory requirements while delivering high-quality, manufacturable designs. You’ll lead EMI/EMC testing, drive design verification, and shape mitigation strategies, reading schematics, using spectrum analyzers, CST/ANSYS tools, and working under tight schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of EMI/EMC design and testing experience.
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI standards and regulations (e.g., MIL-STD-461G, MIL-STD-464D, RTCA DOD-160, FCC, IEC, CISPR, SAE).
  • Proven expertise in E3 design, analysis, testing and mitigation strategies.
  • Specialized in HERO, HEMP, Lightning Protection, ESD, RF exposure limits and operational electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Proficiency in using EMI/EMC testing equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, antennas, LISN etc.)
  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, CST Microwave Studio) for EMI analysis.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving EMI/EMC issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Full understanding of PCB Layout techniques to meet mechanical, electrical, EMI/EMC, and manufacturing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Identify program EMI/EMC risks and define strategies for reducing risk through modeling, simulation, or experimental activities.
  • Stay updated on relevant standards (e.g., MIL-STD-461G, MIL-STD-464D, DOD-160, FCC, CISPR, IEC) and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct field tests and assessments to evaluate product performance in real-world environments.
  • Work in a fast‑paced environment, juggling multiple concurrent projects and customers.

Fresh has partnered with a defense and space manufacturing company, we are seeking a candidate that will be responsible for designing, testing, and validating electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) solutions for electronic products. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Range is $75/hr to $90/hr.
