Kelly is hiring an Electro-Optics Technician in Carlsbad, CA for a premier manufacturing client. You will assemble PCBAs and cable assemblies, inspect quality, and integrate subassemblies into electro-optical systems.

Expect close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. Ideal candidates hold at least 2 years in electronics assembly, with soldering, crimping, and optical handling skills.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical certification in Electronics Technology or related field.
• At least 2 years of electronics assembly experience.
• Hands-on soldering, crimping, wire harness fabrication, and device assembly.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and drawings.
• Experience with microscopes, hand tools, and precision measurement devices.
• Strong attention to detail and quality-focused workmanship.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications and electronic documentation.
• IPC certifications (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620) preferred.
• Experience with electro-optical, photonics, or sensor-based products preferred.
• Familiarity with optical handling, NPI activities, and ESD control.

Responsibilities

• Assemble cable assemblies, PCBAs, and related hardware using soldering, crimping, wire prep, connectors, and microscopes.
• Inspect and test assemblies against drawings, schematics, work instructions, and quality standards.
• Integrate components into electro-opto-mechanical systems and products.
• Troubleshoot assembly and integration issues and identify root causes.
• Prepare, update, and maintain work instructions, procedures, and test records.
• Document results in accordance with quality and traceability requirements.
• Collaborate with engineering to support transitions from prototype to production.
• Kit and stage materials per BOMs; prepare components for production or shipping.
• Support tests with laboratory instrumentation and test equipment.
• Maintain organized workspaces, adhere to safety, quality, and ESD requirements.

What’s a typical day as Electro – Optics Technician? You’ll be:

• Assembling cable assemblies, printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), and related electronic hardware using soldering, crimping, wire preparation, connector installation, and microscope-assisted techniques
• Inspecting and testing cable assemblies, PCBAs, and electronic circuits to engineering drawings, schematics, work instructions, and quality standards
• Integrating electronic components, cable assemblies, and subassemblies into electro-opto-mechanical systems and products
• Troubleshooting assembly and integration issues, and assisting in identifying root causes of electrical and mechanical defects
• Preparing, updating, and maintaining work instructions, assembly procedures, and test documentation
• Accurately documenting assembly, inspection, and test results in accordance with quality and traceability requirements
• Collaborating with engineering personnel to support design transitions from prototype to production
• Kitting and staging materials per work orders and bills of materials
• Preparing, cleaning, labeling, and packaging components and assemblies for production or shipment
• Supporting tests of subassemblies and final products using laboratory instrumentation and test equipment
• Performing low-complexity opto-mechanical assembly operations, including installing mechanical hardware and optical components
• Maintaining organized workspaces and adhering to safety, quality, and ESD requirements
• Supporting inventory, material handling, and continuous improvement activities as needed

This job might be an outstanding fit if you:

• Have an Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Electronics Technology, Electro-Mechanical Technology, Photonics, or a related field
• Bring at least 2 years of experience in electronics assembly, cable assembly, or electro-optical manufacturing environments
• Possess hands‑on skills in soldering, crimping, wire harness fabrication, and electronic assembly
• Can read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and assembly instructions
• Are experienced with microscopes, hand tools, electrical test equipment, and precision measurement devices
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Are proficient with standard computer applications and electronic documentation
• (Preferred) Hold IPC certifications (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620)
• (Preferred) Have experience with electro‑optical, photonics, laser, imaging, or sensor‑based products
• (Preferred) Are familiar with optical handling and contamination control practices, prototype builds, and new product introduction (NPI) activities
• (Preferred) Understand ESD control requirements and quality management systems
• Can perform detailed work under magnification for extended periods and sit or stand for prolonged periods
