SGS Consulting seeks an engineer to research and plan development of laser and electro-optical devices, and to design circuitry and optical components within mechanical constraints. The role involves analyzing RF components and PCBs, assembling and testing hardware, and documenting development efforts.
Candidate will work partly onsite (1–2 days/week) with potential bursts needing closer onsite collaboration to integrate hardware solutions. Interim clearance is acceptable to start.
Conducts research and plans development and design of gas and solid-state lasers, masers, infrared, and other light emitting and light sensitive devices. Designs electronic circuitry and optical components with specific characteristics to fit within specified mechanical limits and to perform according to specifications. May conduct application analysis to determine commercial, industrial, scientific, medical, military or other use for electro-optical devices.
Use of computer-assisted design tools such as Solid Works.Ability to analyze RF components, modules, and printed circuit boards, plus assemble, test and document hardware development efforts.Strong mechanical skills.Familiarity with layout and characterization of laser diode, photodetector, electro-optic modulator, delay-line interferometer, and optical amplifier subsystems.Electronics and electro-mechanical subsystem packaging.Assembly and test procedure development and documentation.Development of ruggedized opto-mechanical structures.
Interim clearance is sufficient for the start of this position. This position is 1-2 days/week onsite but there are sometimes bursts where more onsite work is required to work with the hardware.
