About the Role
Ports America is seeking an Electro‑Mechanical Crane Manager to support the Crane Maintenance Department in ensuring timely, cost‑effective maintenance, repairs, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Essential Duties
- Ensure electro‑mechanical maintenance and repair of site cranes is timely and cost‑effective, prioritizing quality and equipment longevity.
- Supervise the maintenance and repair of all site cranes and supporting equipment (electrical, electronic, mechanical).
- Maintain equipment in safe and reliable working condition per preventive maintenance schedule and address recurring issues.
- Monitor warranties and file warranty claims.
- Respond to breakdowns promptly and oversee follow‑up work.
- Ensure repair work does not negatively impact customer service.
- Coordinate with planning for maintenance scheduling and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
- Recommend and develop equipment improvements and modifications.
- Order spare parts, collaborate with Procurement on location and pricing.
- Supervise subcontractor work on‑site and major repair projects.
- Prepare estimating reports for damages/repairs.
- Provide supervision, direction, and feedback to crane maintenance staff.
- Organize daily work schedule.
- Enforce safety procedures and gear usage.
- Counsel subordinates, including discipline or termination recommendations.
- Update technical knowledge of staff as needed.
- Adhere to labor contract requirements regarding union personnel.
- Apply company management policies in personnel management.
- Manage department budget within guidelines and annual goals.
- Provide accurate reports to management.
- Assist Engineering Director with special projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Working Attributes
- Climbs ladder on a vessel multiple times per shift.
- Works in varying hot and cold climates.
- Works in hazardous environments where fast‑moving equipment may not be seen or heard.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (experience may substitute for education at the college level).
- Experience with electronic, hydraulic, and/or mechanical equipment.
- Experience with PLC logic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical knowledge of quay crane, rubber‑tired gantry crane, and spreader maintenance.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering principles.
- Knowledge of terminal operations and coordination of cranes with vessel activity.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, layouts, and specifications.
- Expertise in PLC and drive control systems for container cranes.
- Leadership experience with the ability to influence and lead a department of trades or union workers.
- Familiarity with OSHA, NEC, and other local, state, and federal regulations.
- Strong planning, organizational, and detail orientation skills.
- Excellent technical problem‑solving skills.
- Computer proficiency with maintenance and repair software for cranes.
- Exceptional time management in fast‑moving environment.

Maryland Pay Transparency: $105k - $115k per year.
