At Ports America, the Electro-Mechanical Crane Manager will provide support for the staff handling technical repairs for the Crane Maintenance Department.

Essential Duties
  • Ensures that the electro-mechanical maintenance and repair of cranes are done in a timely and cost-effective manner, with consideration given to quality and longer duration of equipment.
  • Supervising the maintenance and repair of all the site cranes and their supporting equipment and parts (electrical, electronic, and mechanical).
  • Ensure that the equipment is maintained in a safe and reliable working condition, in accordance with the planned preventive maintenance program and to identify and rectify repetitive problems.
  • Monitors warranties and ensure claims under warranty are filed.
  • Ensure that breakdowns are corrected promptly and to make sure that follow-up work is undertaken.
  • Ensures that repair work does not adversely affect the services to the customer.
  • Liaise with planning for the scheduling of maintenance program and to provide feedback with a goal to continual improvement.
  • Recommend and develop equipment overall and improvement modification.
  • Orders spare parts for the department and assists Procurement in location and pricing of spare parts.
  • Supervising subcontractors work on-site and any major projects or repairs.
  • Prepares estimating for damages/repairs and makes a report and submit.
  • Provides supervision and direction for the crane maintenance staff including the following.
  • Offers direction and instruction to subordinate staff, providing regular feedback.
  • Organizes daily work schedule.
  • Ensures safety procedures are followed and safety gear is used appropriately.
  • Counsel subordinates, up to and including discipline or termination recommendations.
  • Ensures that technical knowledge of staff is updated as needed.
  • Follows labor contract requirements with respect to union personnel.
  • Follows company management policies and procedures in the application of managing subordinates.
  • Manages department budget within guidelines and annual goals.
  • Provides complete and accurate reports to management.
  • Assists Engineering Director with special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Working Attributes
  • Climb up and down a ladder on a vessel multiple times within a shift.
  • Work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions.
  • Work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering,
    • Experience may be substituted for educational requirements at the college level.
  • Experience with electronic, hydraulic, and or mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with PLC logic
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical knowledge of maintenance and repair of quay cranes, rubber-tired gantry cranes, spreaders, in general.
  • Knowledge of general engineering principles covering mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering.
  • Requires overall general knowledge of terminal operations, especially the coordination of cranes with vessel activity.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, layouts, and specifications.
  • Requires a wide range of knowledge in PLC and drive control systems and overall container cranes' control and mechanical system.
  • Working knowledge of supervisory and leadership principles, with the ability to influence other team members in a positive way and lead a department of trades and or union workers.
  • Must be familiar with OSHA, National Electrical Code, and all other regulations, such as welding and electrical standards, that are required, both locally and at the state and federal level.
  • Requires a high level of planning and organizational skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Requires excellent problem-solving skills, especially technical problems of a highly complex nature.
  • Requires ability to use computerized software system(s), specifically those designed for maintenance and repair of cranes.
  • Exceptional time management, due to fast-moving, demanding work environment.
