Job Title: Electronic Mechanical Technician
Department(s): 5028 - Crane Maintenance - GCT; 5029 - RTG Maintenance - GCT;

Job Overview

Under the supervision of the EMT Foreman, the Electronic Mechanical Technician inspects, services, and repairs electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems for cranes and RTG's. Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors.

Job Duties
  • Performs emergency response to operations requests to immediately repair disabled container and RTG cranes. Identifies problem and implements necessary corrective action to repair cranes or associated equipment. Operates cranes/heavy equipment as necessary for repairs.
  • Inspects, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on DC and AC circuits, DC and AC motors, DC and AC drive systems, generators, alternators, programmable logic controllers, limit switches, lights, resistor banks, wiring and alarm systems, fiber‑optic cables, load cell systems, hydraulic systems, and diesel engines.
  • Performs set‑up, tuning, and calibration of AC and DC drive systems per original equipment manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Reads and understands electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic drawings and schematics, makes necessary changes to schematics and wiring diagrams to reflect as‑built or as‑modified conditions.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical, electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems on the cranes.
  • Installs conduit and wiring as necessary for installation of equipment modifications or for new equipment installations.
  • Assists Crane Maintenance Mechanics or Crane Operations personnel when necessary.
  • Plans, selects, and orders materials, tools, and equipment necessary for jobs.
  • Willing and able to repair equipment to eliminate the cause of downtime and its recurrence. Consult with supervisor and set‑up preventive maintenance procedures. Capable of resolving all problems relating to electrical parameters.
  • Assist in the training of other employees on the finer points of electrical theories and practices requiring the highest skill and knowledge.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and environmentally acceptable working environment.
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Thorough understanding of DC and AC circuitry, DC and AC drive systems, generators, programmable logic controllers, fiber‑optic technology, and load cell systems. Ability to disassemble, inspect and make necessary repairs on DC motors, AC motors, DC and AC drive systems, generators, alternators, programmable logic controllers, fiber‑optic cables, and load cell systems. Familiar with necessary techniques to troubleshoot hydraulic systems and diesel engines. Thorough understanding of and ability to read blueprints and schematic diagrams required. Thorough knowledge of industrial electronic diagrams and their symbols and meanings necessary. Ability to use a systematic troubleshooting technique that will quickly isolate and find troubles in cables, wiring, relays, regulators, power supplies, DC and AC drive systems, and brake systems as necessary. Proficiency in the use of electronic test equipment, multimeters, oscilloscopes, chart recorders, cable testing devices and other required instruments, essential. Vision requirements: Visual acuity of 20/40 with or without corrective lenses for each eye, minimum depth perception of 6/9, and minimum peripheral vision of 70 degrees for each eye. The ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels of administration including immediate supervisor, management and co‑workers required. This position requires that the individual is able to lift up to 50 lbs., and maneuver large parts. Must climb and work at high elevations up to 306 ft.

  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential
  • Driver's License - Valid state driver's license
