Job description

Will provide process controls and PLC support at all Freres Manufacturing Facilities. They will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all facility electrical control systems, PLC controls networking, and HMI systems.

Branch: Plywood and Veneer Manufacturing
Report To: Electrical Supervisor
Schedule: Eight to ten-hour shifts

Essential Functions

1. Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electronic components of industrial machinery following electrical codes, manuals, schematics, blueprints, and specifications using appropriate tools and test equipment.
2. Install power supply wiring and conduit for new machinery and equipment.
3. Diagnose malfunctions, replace or repair parts, and test to ensure proper operation.
4. Prepare wiring diagrams to document changes.
5. Experience with hardware and software programming is a plus.
6. Install, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial electronic devices, including HMI, VFD, robotics, and instrumentation.
7. Develop and maintain programs for PLCs (Modicon, Allen Bradley, Siemens), HMI, and Motion Controllers.
8. Assist other branches with related tasks as needed.

Physical Demands

Work in extreme temperatures, dusty and noisy conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces. Shift work includes weekends, holidays, and shutdowns. Must be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds, walk, climb, stand, and work in various environmental conditions. Frequent bending, reaching, and handling are required.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required. Experience in mill environments, especially with laminated veneer lumber and plywood, preferred. Must have a Journeyman Manufacturing Plant (PJ) or General Journeyman license. Ability to read electrical schematics, demonstrate leadership, and possess strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy and adaptability to changing roles are essential. Training will be provided for the right candidate.
