Job summary

Shelby County TN is seeking a licensed journeyman electrician to install and maintain electrical systems under limited supervision in Memphis, TN. Salary is commensurate with experience and education.

Qualified candidates have a Tennessee journeyman license, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to pass a physical examination. A valid Tennessee driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience as a licensed journeyman in installation and maintenance.
• High school diploma or GED, or proof of education, training, and/or experience.
• Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license and journeyman license.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots, installs, repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatuses, and control equipment.
• Performs installations to minimize waste of materials.
• Provides access for future maintenance and avoids hazardous, unreliable wiring per local codes.
• Prepares sketches showing wiring locations or follows diagrams (schematics).
• Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit and tests circuit continuity for safety.

Position Summary

Works under limited supervision to install and maintain electrical systems.

Pay Grade: 51H

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience as a licensed journeyman in the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment; AND
• High school diploma or possess a GED; OR
• PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Trouble shoots, installs, repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatuses, and control equipment.
• Performs installations to minimize waste of materials.
• Provides access for future maintenance and avoids unsightly hazardous and unreliable wiring consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
• Prepares sketches showing location of all wiring and equipment or follows diagrams prepared by others (schematics).
• Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit using such tools as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bander.
• Tests continuity of circuit using ohmmeter, battery, buzzer, and oscilloscope to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of all components.
• Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

KSAs

• Ability to interpret electrical schematics.
• Ability to use a variety of electrical testing equipment.
• Ability to plan and carry out electrical installations and maintenance in conformance with required codes.
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others.

Special Requirements

• Must have a Journeyman's license.
• Must pass a physical examination.
• Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one by date of employment.
• Must have daily access to a personal operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.

Physical Requirements

• Must have manual dexterity.
• Ability to climb and work at heights of 10-20 feet.
• Must be able to work outdoors or in inclement weather.
