Job summary

The City of Houston is seeking a qualified electrician for the Houston Water–Wastewater Operations, reporting to multiple locations in Houston. Workdays are Monday–Friday, 6:30 am–2:30 pm, with duties requiring physical effort and potential shift changes.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, completion of an approved apprentice electrician program, and a Texas Journeyman Electrician License (CDL may be required). Preference given to veterans.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Successful completion of an apprentice electrician program approved by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, manage, and upgrade existing electromechanical systems to ensure an economical and safe distribution of electricity.
  • Repair, replace, and install new equipment/components and related hardware to maximize function ability.
  • Provides preventive maintenance ensuring safe operating conditions.
  • Prepares and updates various records, logs, and reports related to the work being performed.
  • Responds to emergency calls for various types of electrical failures and shutdowns.
  • Organizes, schedules and monitors work assignments.
  • Research technical product specifications.
  • Compares and evaluates product prices from vendors to determine most competitive bid.
  • Assists in the inventory control management of electrical parts and components to provide appropriate supply levels.
  • Inspects field locations to determine appropriate types and placement of electrical components for installation.
