Job summary

City of Houston is seeking a dedicated first responder for Houston Water/Wastewater Operations. You will investigate service requests, respond to sanitary sewer overflows, and document actions using various systems and communications with the public and professionals.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid Texas driver’s license, and about one year of related experience. Some shifts may be extended or overnight during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• Requires a valid Texas driver’s license.
• One year of experience related to customer service or an area of inspection.
• Preference given to knowledge of IPS, GIS and basic Microsoft applications.

Responsibilities

• Investigates and responds to service requests from citizens, businesses and manhole monitoring alerts.
• Documents and addresses sanitary sewer overflows, using photos, emails and an asset management system.
• Meets with the public and technical personnel to address inquiries and concerns.
• May respond to emergencies and work longer shifts; may sleep on-site during an emergency.
• Drives to and from job sites as required.
• Lifts moderately heavy items as part of daily duties; may walk long distances on rough surfaces.
