General Statement of Duties
To install, inspect, maintain, alter and repair electrical lines, equipment and apparatus; and to do related work as required.

Position Overview
The Electrician is responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining, altering, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and apparatus throughout Rhode Island College facilities. The position performs skilled electrical work involving wiring, cables, power equipment, machinery, lighting, communication and signaling systems, and other electrical and electronic equipment. The Electrician works with considerable independence and judgment in applying established trade practices and techniques, including the ability to read and work from electrical diagrams and blueprints and safely handle high-voltage systems. The position may also perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, minor repairs, and related work on motors, generators, appliances, and specialized equipment, and may supervise helpers or other employees assigned to assist with electrical work. A current Rhode Island journeyman electrician’s license is required and must be maintained as a condition of employment.

Additional Required Qualifications
Must possess a journeyman electrician’s license issued by the Rhode Island State Board of Examiners of Electricians and must maintain such licensure as a condition of employment.

A thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, tools, equipment and materials used in the electrician trade and skill in their application; a working knowledge of safety codes enforced by the State; the ability to read and work from electrical wiring diagrams and blueprints; the ability to handle high voltage wires; the ability to understand and to follow oral and written directions; and related capacities and abilities
