Job summary

The City of Cambridge is seeking a Wiring Inspector to supervise electrical inspectional work in accordance with the Massachusetts Electrical Code. Under direction, you will enforce electrical safety rules and perform related inspections within Cambridge’s jurisdiction.

You will investigate complaints, issue orders for corrections, prepare reports, and testify as needed. Strong knowledge of Windows-based tools and a valid MA driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• At least three years within the last five years of full-time electrical work as a licensed journeyman or master electrician.
• A or B Massachusetts Master or Journeyman Electrician’s license, issued by the State Board of Examiners of Electricians.
• Working knowledge of Windows programs such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Applicants must possess a valid Massachusetts Driver's License and have access to a personal motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Inspect electrical wiring and fixture installations for compliance with Massachusetts Electrical Code safety requirements.
• Inspect wiring installations for transmission of current and give final approval before energizing.
• Investigate complaints from landlords, tenants, and Fire Prevention Bureau; issue correction orders.
• Gather evidence for prosecutions and provide testimony in court; prepare related reports.
• Other duties as assigned.
