Job summary

The City of Cambridge is seeking a Wiring Inspector to supervise and perform electrical inspections under the Massachusetts Electrical Code. You will enforce wiring regulations across the city and ensure safe, code-compliant installations before they are energized.

Under the direction of the ISD leadership, you will investigate complaints, gather evidence for prosecutions, and prepare reports, with duties including testifying in court when required.

Qualifications

• Three years within the last five years of full-time electrical work as licensed journeyman or master.
• Massachusetts Master or Journeyman Electrician license (A or B) issued by the State Board of Examiners of Electricians.
• Working knowledge of Windows Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and access to a personal motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Inspect electrical wiring and fixture installations for compliance with the Massachusetts Electrical Code.
• Inspect electrical installations for proper transmission of current and provide final approval before energizing.
• Investigate complaints from landlords, tenants, and Fire Prevention Bureau and issue correction orders.
• Gather evidence for prosecutions and provide testimony in court cases; prepare related reports.
