This is an “at will” apprentice training position or a Line Worker position within the Electrical department responsible for assisting in rebuilding, installing, and repairing electrical and fiber optic lines in the Marietta Power service area. Candidates are hired at either Apprentice Line Worker or Line Worker based on qualifications. The employee must complete training for each step level within the apprentice line worker program, performing more responsible line work as they advance. This position works under close supervision of an assigned Foreperson or experienced line worker.
- Assists line workers in pulling or installing overhead and underground primary and secondary wires, digging ditches, installing switches, capacitor banks, transformers, and wiring underground switching cubicles.
- Provides ground support for installation of lines, services, and meters, including transferring live electrical primaries and working on aerial bucket or climbing poles up to 100 ft.
- Assists with installing transformers, reclosers, capacitors, and related parts on power poles, including building three-phase transformer banks at advanced levels.
- Operates equipment such as tractors, backhoes, boom and bucket trucks, and digs holes with line trucks according to skill level.
- Assists in replacing and installing power poles, transformers, underground transformers, switching cubicles, and street lighting.
- Monitors work of ground support employees, assists in locating and repairing underground lines, and splices primary and secondary power lines.
- Cleans and inspects equipment and safety gear regularly.
- Completes job orders, warehouse materials, fuel logs, and personal timecards.
- Serves on call on a rotating basis, maintaining availability for outages and overtime work.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Weight limit of 280 lbs for safety reasons.
- Completion of a formal apprentice line worker program with at least four years of verifiable experience.
- Valid Georgia Class A commercial driver’s license, with a clean seven-year driving record.
- Knowledge of overhead and underground line work, transformers, switching, fault locating, and safety standards.
- Ability to climb poles, work at heights, and use all relevant tools and equipment safely.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interpret codes and blueprints.
- Valid Georgia flagging, First Aid, and CPR certifications, or ability to obtain within the work test period.
