Job Title: Electrical Trades II

Job Summary:

The Electrical Trades II position ensures the availability and distribution of electrical power to the CU Denver campuses, for use by, but not limited to the following systems: energy management (EMCS), lighting, power for telecommunications, computer network, and a multitude of other power applications. Inspects, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on electrical systems

Key Responsibilities:
  • Installs various kinds of raceways, wiring, boxes, supports, fastening devices, lighting fixtures, electrical panels, receptacles, switches, fuse-holders, relays, HVAC controls, and other devices.
  • Will encounter instances or worn out and/or malfunctioning electrical components. Using test equipment and wiring diagrams the tradesman must determine origin of problem.Tradesman must determine whether identical components can be used or if new improved technology can be utilized to affect a more efficient repair and future operation. Electrical supervisor is called in occasionally to assist in determining solution to a specific problem.
  • Installations and repairs need to conform with CU Anschutz Medical Campus construction standards and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements need to communicated with the constituent. Electrical supervisor is called in occasionally to assist in determining solution to a specific problem.
  • Meets with internal and external constituents to determine their needs then provides pricing information to same. If the pricing is within constituent's budget tradesman, then determines scheduling and methods by which to perform the work.
  • Training and Assistance to CU Denver Staff
  • Provides training and assistance to non-electrical CU Denver staff on electrical repairs and new installations to ensure compliance with electrical code, CUDenver Construction Standards, accepted good trade practices.
  • Provides training on ballast replacement and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Receives PM work orders, performs preventive maintenance on assigned installed equipment, logs and reports as required. Operates university vehicle to transport necessary tools/equipment to work sites across campus.
  • Provides training on ballast replacement and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Quite frequently tradesman encounters non-electrical CU Denver staff who have absolutely no acumen necessary to do basic electrical work. At that time, it should be determined that some non-electrical CU Denver staff should be doing any electrical work whatsoever. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current, valid licensure as a journeyman electrician from the Colorado Electrical Board.

Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with fire alarm systems
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in existing electrical systems.
  • Experience providing training on ballast replacement and basic electrical troubleshooting skills

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position requires a State of Colorado Journeyman or Masters Electrical License.
  • Must be a resident of the State of Colorado at the time of application.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as

$5,203 - $6,243 per month ($62,436- $74,916 per year)

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

If you have prior state-classified service in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.
