Position Summary

Oceaneering International Inc. supports the US Navy’s submarine rescue mission through the Submarine Rescue Operations and Maintenance Contract (SROMC).

We partner with the Navy’s Undersea Rescue Command (URC) to provide 24/7 worldwide submarine rescue capabilities, assisting disabled submarines (DISSUB) or conducting submersible interventions and rescues.

We seek an Electrical Technician to perform electrical/electronic maintenance and repair on submarine rescue assets and supporting equipment.

The technician will conduct scheduled and corrective maintenance, integration, testing, field installation, and troubleshooting of electrical systems. Work primarily occurs at URC in San Diego, with travel across the US, at sea, and abroad.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential

  • Provide technical judgment following company policies to meet SROMC obligations.
  • Maintain USN submarine rescue systems and support equipment (SRDRS, ROV, SILOS, LWMS) in high readiness.
  • Support a safety culture aligned with Oceaneering’s Life Safety Rules and HSE policies.
  • Understand technical requirements from NAVSEA manuals and ABS rules.
  • Document maintenance and operational activities to sustain certification.
  • Resolve technical, procedural, and scheduling issues.
  • Develop methods to enhance safety, efficiency, and readiness.
  • Perform soldering, electrical assembly, cable testing, fiber optics termination, troubleshooting.
  • Conduct light mechanical assembly related to submarine rescue systems and equipment.
  • Use electrical meters, high voltage meggers, fiber optic sources, and similar tools.
  • Travel and standby at sea will be required.

Additional

  • Familiarity with oscilloscopes, TDRs, analyzers, spectrum analyzers is desirable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical associate degree or trade school certification.
  • At least 2 years of formal electronics training or 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to interpret complex electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency in soldering and electrical assembly.
  • Electronics assembly/inspection or soldering certification preferred.
  • Experience with cable and fiber optic assembly and troubleshooting.
  • Good communication skills and teamwork ability.
  • Ability to work independently under various conditions.
  • Valid U.S. passport and ability to obtain security clearance.

Desired

  • Experience with PWB/PCB assembly, Deep Submergence Systems, troubleshooting to component level, shipboard wiring, or subsea systems is a plus.
