Senior Navy Electrical Technician

Position Summary

We are looking for driven senior technicians to join our San Diego, CA team. As a Senior Navy Electrical Technician, you will be responsible for providing TYCOM Material Inspection and Training (TMIT) Support Services for Commander Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific (COMNAVSURFPAC) at Naval Base San Diego, California. You must have a working knowledge of INSURV Material Inspections, understand the Schedule of Events, INSURV Inspection Guides (IIG), and all related instructions and publications. Familiarity with Material Maintenance Management (3M) and the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) is required.

Clearance Requirement

  • Must be a US citizen with an active "Secret" DoD security clearance.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Execute and support all READ-E 2, 5, 6, and 7 Material Inspections and assessment events for COMNAVSURFPAC ships.
  • Assist the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) during Material Inspections using the SFTRM and INSURV procedures and standards.
  • Support TYCOM Sea Trials during READ-E 5 using relevant regulations and procedures.
  • Conduct TYCOM Assist Visits (TAV) on Pacific Fleet ships as needed.
  • Provide analysis of the ship's material condition and readiness to execute MI.
  • Analyze surface combatant material trends and assess ship class material issues.
  • Support efforts to address material shortcomings identified in MI Annual Reports and report results.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 20 years of documented hands-on Navy shipboard electrical experience.
  • Three at-sea tours working as an electrician.
  • Experience operating and maintaining electrical equipment and support systems.
  • Qualified EPCC operator.
  • Recent experience (within last 5 years) in your specialty.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) qualification on at least one Navy ship.
  • Retired Chief or Senior Chief Petty Officer (E7/E8).
  • Experience as an INSURV Senior Inspector.
  • Experience with Pre-INSURV preparations at Afloat Training Group or TYCOM.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Team player with initiative and reliability.

Physical Demands and Expectations:

  • Willing to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Meet U.S. Navy ship-rider requirements.
  • Physically able to climb ladders and stay onboard vessels for days.
  • Work in shipboard/shipyard environments with safety equipment.
  • Good speaking, reading, hearing, and writing skills.
  • Use of office and communication equipment.
