Job summary

System One is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician in Richmond, VA for a contract-to-hire, onsite second shift. You will install, inspect, troubleshoot and maintain industrial electrical equipment and support production uptime.

The ideal candidate has 4+ years in industrial maintenance, completion of an electrical apprenticeship or technical program, and the ability to read schematics and work with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs and safety devices.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of industrial, manufacturing, or commercial electrical maintenance experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED, plus apprenticeship or technical program.
  • Strong understanding of AC/DC theory, single- and three-phase power, motors and controls.

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical equipment and systems.
  • Diagnose faults in motors, starters, contactors, relays, transformers, and power distribution devices.
  • Troubleshoot single- and three-phase systems and support plant-wide power distribution.
  • Diagnose issues with PLC-controlled equipment, HMIs, VFDs, sensors and safety circuits.
  • Work with controls/engineering teams to resolve production problems and support automation.
  • Perform scheduled preventive/predictive maintenance and document results.

Electrical Technician

? Location: Richmond, VA (South Chesterfield Area)
? Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
? Pay Rate: $36.25 per Hour
? Work Model: Onsite
? Shift: 2nd Shift (2:30 PM - 11:00 PM)
? Schedule: 40+ Hours per Week, including at least one Saturday per month
? Security Clearance: Not Required

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Troubleshooting & Maintenance
  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical equipment and systems.
  • Diagnose electrical faults involving:
    • Motors
    • Motor starters
    • Contactors
    • Relays
    • Transformers
    • Circuit protection devices
    • Power supplies
    • Heating circuits
  • Troubleshoot and repair single‑phase and three‑phase electrical systems.
  • Support plant‑wide power distribution systems and production equipment.
Controls & Automation Support
  • Diagnose electrical issues related to:
    • PLC‑controlled equipment
    • HMIs
    • VFDs
    • Industrial sensors
    • Machine safety circuits
  • Work alongside controls and engineering teams to resolve production issues.
  • Support maintenance and troubleshooting of automated manufacturing equipment.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
  • Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Execute electrical repairs during planned equipment shutdowns.
  • Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to prevent recurring equipment failures.
  • Document maintenance work, repairs, test results, and equipment updates.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical safe‑work practices.
  • Utilize proper PPE and maintain compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain organized workspaces utilizing 5S principles.
  • Identify and address safety concerns before they impact personnel or equipment.
Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with maintenance personnel, engineers, production teams, and contractors.
  • Coordinate contractor activities, secure project quotes, and oversee onsite work.
  • Assist with mechanical maintenance and cross‑training opportunities as needed.
  • Provide support during emergency breakdowns and off‑shift maintenance situations.
What We're Looking For
Required Experience
  • 4+ years of industrial, manufacturing, or commercial electrical maintenance experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship, technical program, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • AC/DC electrical theory
    • Single‑phase and three‑phase power systems
    • Industrial motors and motor controls
    • Electrical distribution systems
  • Experience reading and interpreting:
    • Electrical schematics
    • Wiring diagrams
    • Control panel drawings
    • Technical manuals
Technical Skills

Candidates should be comfortable troubleshooting and repairing:

Additional Requirements

  • Comfortable standing, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Journeyman Electrician License
  • NFPA 70E Certification or Training
  • Experience applying National Electrical Code (NEC) standards
  • Allen‑Bradley, Rockwell, or Siemens controls experience
  • PLC troubleshooting or programming experience
  • AutoCAD Electrical or SOLIDWORKS Electrical experience
  • Infrared thermography or predictive maintenance training
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting experienceMulti‑craft maintenance experience
