Job summary

Bauer Compressors, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Support Specialist in Norfolk, VA to provide technical assistance to the Electrical Assembly Department Lead. You will program HMIs/PLCs, power up units, troubleshoot faults, and update schematics to support production throughput.

The role requires reading electrical schematics, BOM auditing, and safe operation of tooling and cranes. Strong communication and independent work ethic are essential for success on this shift-based schedule.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or other related field; OR a minimum of three (3) plus years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in reading engineering and electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook and Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task and prioritize demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Possess an understanding of electrical wiring and harnessing.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics for placement of parts.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting standard measuring devices such as tape measures, scales, squares, etc.
  • Proficient in safely operating overhead/jib crane.
  • Able to identify and safely operate standard hand, power and air tools.

Responsibilities

  • Program HMIs and PLCs based on unit specifications.
  • Power up units and troubleshoot faults to ensure proper function.
  • Use EPlan to create/update schematics for job orders.
  • Audit BOM and coordinate parts delivery when needed.
  • Use M2M to research job order information.
  • Maintain job paperwork including orders and drawings.
  • Access assembly and schematic drawings via Vault.
  • Analyze drawings for revisions and consult engineering as needed.
  • Understand BOMAF and MPL processes.
  • Wire motor assemblies and related electrical wiring.
  • Measure, drill, cut and wire electrical assemblies.
  • Assemble harnesses and switches for orders.
  • Maintain UL records.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Electrical Support Specialist is responsible for providing technical assistance and support to the Electrical Assembly Department Lead to increase efficiency and throughput in the production areas.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Include the following, but other duties may be assigned.

  • Program HMIs and PLCs based on required compressor unit specifications.
  • Power up units and, if necessary, troubleshoot and correct any faults to ensure units are functioning properly.
  • Use EPlan to create and update schematics with information and components required for the job order they’re assigned to.
  • Audit Bill of Material to ensure all issued parts are with the job and of the required quantity. If not, network with warehouse, engineering, and production coordinators to have the required parts delivered.
  • Use M2M to research job order information.
  • Properly maintain job paperwork, including job orders, drawings, Bill of Material changes, etc.
  • Use Vault to access assembly and schematic drawings.
  • Analyze assembly and schematic drawings to determine any need for revisions and refer to the engineering department.
  • Understand when and how to utilize the BOMAF and MPL processes.
  • Wire motor assemblies.
  • Measure, drill, cut, and wire electrical assemblies.
  • Assemble harnesses and switches as needed for job orders.
  • Responsible for the retention and upkeep of UL records.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or other related field; OR a minimum of three (3) plus years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in reading engineering and electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook and Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or other related field.
  • Experience in LEAN concepts.
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems experience a plus.
  • Autodesk Inventor experience preferred.

The noise levels in some manufacturing facilities frequently may exceed the normal dBA. The employee is required to wear all necessary personal protective equipment (safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, masks, etc.) while working or when walking through the plant.

Normal working schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6am to 4:30pm EST; occasional overtime and weekend hours required at time.
