Job summary

Roper Pump Company LLC in Commerce, GA is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to keep our production equipment running and prevent downtime. You will diagnose electrical and mechanical faults, repair drives, pneumatics, and hydraulics, and perform routine preventive maintenance following SOPs.

You will use CMMS for work orders, maintain parts inventories, and follow safety policies including LOTO, PPE, and proper PPE usage. Reading schematics and prints is essential.

Qualifications

• Two-year degree in maintenance or GED with five years of maintenance experience.
• Ability to read, use and interpret mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic prints.
• Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, memos and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules and PPE requirements (LOTO, machine guarding, confined space).
• Perform repairs on production machines; diagnose electrical and mechanical faults.
• Use CMMS for work orders, parts, and documentation; maintain accurate as-found/as-left notes.
• Replace faulty electrical components (relays, switches, motors).
• Diagnose and replace mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
• Lubricate and clean parts; maintain clean work areas.
• Move/install machines and related equipment; initiate purchase orders for parts.

Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following.

Follow LOTO, PPE, machine guarding, and confined space rules as applicable.

Electrical safety awareness; apply NFPA 70E approach boundaries and arc-flash labels (voltage testing only within authorization).

Use CMMS for work orders, parts, and documentation; maintain accurate as-found/as-left notes.

Keep schematics, SDS, and OEM manuals current; escape code/permit questions to EHS/Facilities.

Has extensive knowledge in preventive maintenance systems and proven repair processes for equipment used in manufacturing and assembly processes.

Able to conduct required repairs on production machines. Hands-on machine repair experience preferred.

Trouble shoots and repairs mechanical machine problems. Observes machines in operation and uses diagnostic skills to locate and make repairs.

Conduct equipment repairs in a timely manner in order to maintain operation efficiency.

Makes minor electrical repairs to machines and equipment and adjusts parts and instrument controls.

Replace faulty electrical components such as relays, switches, motors, and sensing devices.

Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components for machines and equipment.

Lubricates and cleans parts and cleans around work areas.

Initiates purchase orders for parts and machines.

Moves and installs machines and related equipment and maintains building systems as required.

Follows and adheres to company safety policies and practices and maintains good housekeeping.

Other duties may be assigned.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Wear safety eye glasses and steel-toed shoes. Uses hearing protection, as needed and follows proper lifting techniques. Participates in hazard communication training and is knowledgeable of plant emergency procedures.

Has an industrial truck operator license for motorized pallet jack and forklift. Can perform daily sling and hoist inspection.

QUALIFICATIONS

Electrical troubleshooting to device level: trace circuits from mains to VFD/motor; replace contactors, overloads, power supplies.

PLC/HMI basics: navigate ladder logic online (read-only), force I/O when authorized, back up/upload programs under established SOPs.

Sensors & I/O: diagnose and replace proximity/limit switches, encoders, photoeyes; scale 4-20 mA/0-10 V signals.

Drives & motors: parameter check and basic tuning on VFDs (accel/decel, current limits); megger motors when permitted.

Pneumatics/hydraulics: identify valves, regulators, FRLs; fix common leaks, replace seals/hoses, set pressures to spec.

Machine tool subsystems: coolant pumps, chip conveyors, mist collectors, lube systems—diagnose power/control faults.

Facilities: air compressor/dryer routine service, HVAC filter changes, lighting circuits (ballasts/LED drivers).

Fire/life safety: monthly extinguisher checks, eyewash/shower flush logs, assist with fire alarm panel testing coordination.

Environmental: operate Abcore per SOP (start/stop, flow settings); change filters/coalescers; sample and log pH/clarity.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A two year degree in maintenance and three years of operations maintenance experience or a HS diploma (GED) and five years of experience in maintenance for a manufacturing / assembly operation. A certification in mechanical and/or electrical systems is a plus. Must be able to read, use and/or interpret mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic prints, and inspection equipment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos. Has ability to present information in small group situations to supervisors and other employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Has ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, lubricating chemicals, and heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
