The Electrical Superintendent I provides input and technical expertise for power-generating construction projects. Supports engineering review, procurement (if necessary), construction, and start-up of high or medium voltage electrical systems and associated substations. Offers technical owner correspondence support. Oversees on-site supervision of Field Engineers and General Foremen to ensure safety, productivity, quality, and cost control in the construction discipline.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises and directs General Foremen, Field Engineers, and Foremen to optimize resource use and ensure policy and regulation compliance. Provides coaching and feedback.
- Schedules equipment, materials, tools, subcontractors to maximize efficiency and minimize costs. Collaborates with other projects for resource sharing.
- Trains staff and implements standardized Work Plans; supports process improvements.
- Acts as electrical consultant on circuits, power quality, switchgear, transmission, interconnect systems, and high voltage systems. Participates in meetings with engineers, subcontractors, and utility personnel. Supervises electrical subcontractors.
- Ensures safe working conditions and enforces safety regulations, including training on risks, crane operations, DOT requirements, and electrical hazards.
- Communicates project status, issues, and resource needs with the Site Manager and other superintendents. Participates in staffing, hiring, and discipline decisions.
- Assists in owner negotiations and project decision-making. Fosters a collaborative environment with all stakeholders.
- Monitors costs versus estimates, reports overruns, and manages resources accordingly.
- Verifies project conformance to Quality Plan and communicates specifications and craftsmanship standards. Assists with project close-out documentation.
- Mentors team members on work discipline, costs, scope, quality, and safety.
- Identifies potential change orders and informs the Site Manager.
- May act as project leader in absence of Site Manager. Participates in RFI development and technical reviews.
- Supports economic and community engagement efforts, including local hiring and public meetings.
- Maintains crew and equipment matrices, updates operational analyses, and supports estimating and business development activities.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Utility-scale solar EPC field management experience.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR.
- Leadership skills for supervising multiple employees.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and safety standards.
- Effective communication skills.
- Understanding of job costing.
- Relocation to project site community required.
- Possibility of becoming a qualified electrician (journeyman or master).
- Ability to read prints and contract documents.
- Knowledge of federal and state codes.
