Job summary

University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking an Electrical Shop Manager for Building Maintenance. You will lead the Electricians, coordinate daily work orders, ensure safety and code compliance, and drive departmental performance through KPI-driven management.

This on-site role requires experience in planning, procurement, and mentoring staff, with a focus on effective maintenance and customer service for campus facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 5 years of related experience.
• Associate’s degree with 7 years of related experience.
• Nine years of progressively responsible management experience in facilities operations.
• Experience as a manager or supervisor of a moderate-sized department.
• Strong leadership, communication, and project planning skills.
• Ability to read complex engineering drawings and contract documents.
• Willingness to work evenings/weekends and on-call for emergencies.
• Valid motor vehicle operator license.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily activities of Electricians and coordinate work orders.
• Ensure compliance with Massachusetts Electrical Code and safety standards.
• Develop and monitor KPIs to elevate efficiency and customer satisfaction.
• Prepare scopes, estimates, and three-to-five-year deferred maintenance plans.
• Oversee procurement, inventory, and budgeting for the shop.
• Collaborate with trade supervisors, engineers, and campus customers.
• Supervise after-hours on-call staff and handle emergencies.
