Job summary

ColonialWebb is seeking an experienced Safety Technician to coach safety practices and conduct site assessments in Richmond, VA. You will help ensure a safe work environment for employees by enforcing procedures and coordinating tasks on site.

Responsibilities include conducting inspections, reporting safety readiness, and implementing corrective actions to maintain compliance with OSHA and federal/state regulations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • OSHA 30 certification is required.
  • CSST certification is a plus.
  • CHST certification is a plus.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification is required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce current Federal and Virginia OSHA regulations and NFPA standards is expected.
  • Bilingual and trainer certifications are a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the employees and management of the site in enforcing safety procedures.
  • Coordinate tasks on site to ensure safe performance per safety policies and OSHA standards.
  • Conduct site visits/inspections to assess facilities, work areas and equipment for safety readiness.
  • Identify corrective actions to bring job sites into compliance with codes, laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Inspect availability and use of accident prevention procedures, safety equipment, PPE, and first aid supplies.
  • Assist in reporting and investigating workers' compensation and liability claims and coordinate with relevant teams.
  • Perform job hazard analyses or assist with them.

A day in the life

Assist the employees and management of the site in the enforcement of the safety procedures within the Safety and Risk Program to ensure state and federal OSHA compliance in the field and reduce the risk of employee injuryCoordinate all tasks and functions on site to ensure they are performed safely in accordance with company safety policies and procedures and OSHA standardsSustain safe operations by conducting site visits/inspections of facilities, work areas and equipment; observing and documentation employee work practices and improving safety preparednessIdentify corrective actions necessary to bring job sites into compliance with applicable codes, laws, regulations, and standards, and explain these measures to othersInspect the availability, readiness and proper use of required accident prevention procedures, safety and fire prevention equipment, protective clothing and devices, and first aid suppliesRecommend and follow up to verify the implementation of corrective actionsIdentify and recommend safety equipment, material and supplies for work operationsAssist in reporting and investigating workers compensation and general liability claims on job sites; act as a liaison with workers' compensation issuesConduct and/or assist with job hazard analysis

You should have
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required
  • 2 or more years of safety experience required (preferably in a construction setting but not required)
  • OSHA 30 certification- required
  • Construction Site Safety Technician Certification (CSST) or Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) is a plus
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification required
  • Ability to learn and enforce current corporate policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce current Federal and Virginia Occupational Safety & Health regulations
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and enforce current NFPA Standards applicable to work operations
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and enforce the current US Army Corps of Engineers Safety program
  • Bilingual and train, the trainer certifications are a plus but not required
