Job summary

ColonialWebb Contractors is seeking an experienced Safety Technician to strengthen its safety culture in Richmond, Virginia. This role involves coaching on safety practices, conducting site assessments, and enforcing compliance with safety regulations.

The ideal candidate will have strong safety experience and the necessary certifications to ensure safe working conditions and promote a culture of safety within the organization.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of safety experience, preferably in construction.
  • Knowledge of Federal and Virginia safety regulations.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections and recommend safety measures.

Responsibilities
  • Assist employees and management in enforcing safety procedures within the Safety and Risk Program to ensure state and federal OSHA compliance and reduce employee injury risk.
  • Coordinate all tasks and functions on site to ensure they are performed safely in accordance with company safety policies, procedures and OSHA standards.
  • Sustain safe operations by conducting site visits/inspections of facilities, work areas and equipment; observe and document employee work practices and improve safety preparedness.
  • Identify corrective actions necessary to bring job sites into compliance with applicable codes, laws, regulations and standards, and explain these measures to others.
  • Inspect the availability, readiness and proper use of required accident prevention procedures, safety and fire prevention equipment, protective clothing and devices, and first aid supplies.
  • Recommend and follow up to verify implementation of corrective actions.
  • Identify and recommend safety equipment, material and supplies for work operations.
  • Assist in reporting and investigating workers’ compensation and general liability claims on job sites; act as a liaison with workers’ compensation issues.
  • Conduct and/or assist with job hazard analysis.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • 2 or more years of safety experience required (preferably in a construction setting but not required).
  • OSHA 30 certification required.
  • Construction Site Safety Technician Certification (CSST) or Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) is a plus.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification required.
  • Ability to learn and enforce current corporate policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce current Federal and Virginia Occupational Safety & Health regulations.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and enforce current NFPA Standards applicable to work operations.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and enforce the current US Army Corps of Engineers Safety program.
  • Bilingual and train-the-trainer certifications are a plus but not required.
