Job summary

GEM Technologies, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Safety Officer to support Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

This full-time role focuses on overseeing the Electrical Safety Program and serving as the primary contact for electrical safety concerns. You will work with project teams to implement safe work practices, conduct incident investigations, lead safety assessments, and ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, IEEE, and OSHA standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of relevant electrical safety experience.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain government clearance.
• Advanced knowledge of NFPA 70E, IEEE, and OSHA safety standards.
• Experience with low voltage AC/DC systems and electrical engineering concepts.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Electrical Safety Program, provide expertise in electrical safety, and serve as the primary contact for electrical safety-related concerns.
• Provide electrical safety support to construction projects, work directly with project managers, craft, work planners, and field professionals to ensure effective implementation of electrical safe work practices, conduct incident investigations, leading safety assessments, and collaborate with various teams to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Serve as the primary contact on electrical safety and administer the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
• Act as a resource for LANL employees and managers regarding electrical safety concerns.
• Conduct incident investigations and determine root causes, developing corrective actions as necessary.
• Perform workplace condition inspections to identify electrical hazards in various environments.
• Lead reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWD) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Contribute to the development of codes, standards, and specifications for electrical equipment safety.
• Provide advanced support to engineers/scientists in solving complex technical problems.
• Participate in the evaluation of controlled items and services for compliance with electrical safety requirements.
• Perform calculations to determine electrical severity scores for incidents.
• Develop written electrical safety policies, procedures, and design standards.
