Job summary

Pantex Plant in Amarillo, TX is seeking an Electrical Safety Inspector to ensure NFPA 70 and NEC compliance across facilities and equipment. You will liaison with the Electrical Safety Committee, design agencies, vendors, and contractors to drive safety initiatives and training.

The role requires extensive knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC 70, OSHA CFR 1910.269, and IEEE C-2 electrical codes, with independent judgment under limited supervision. A relevant degree and years of experience are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience. (Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.)
  • OR Master’s Degree with: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. (Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.)
  • OR PhD.
  • NOTE: Applicants without a Bachelor's Degree may be considered based on a combination of 12 or more years of completed education and/or relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as points of contact for worker concerns to the Electrical Safety Committee and related organizations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct activities across multiple departments to meet Plant demands.
  • Perform inspections to validate NFPA 70 and NEC requirements for facilities and equipment.
  • Serve as SME to Electrical Safety Committee on NFPA 70E, NEC 70, OSHA CFR 1910.269, and IEEE C-2.
  • Work with limited supervision, exercising initiative and discretion.
  • Maintain liaison with design agencies, vendors, and contractors to ensure cooperation.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable DOE, federal/state rules and plant policies.
  • Attend required training as determined by Training and Development Technologies Department.
  • Facilitate safety initiatives and provide training while resolving safety concerns.
  • Communicate feedback and lessons learned in ISM framework.
  • Respect workers’ right to stop work and address safety concerns promptly.
  • Attend or conduct required safety meetings and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Will Do
  • Serving as points of contact so worker concerns may be expressed to the Electrical Safety Committee for resolution either by the committee or the Pantex Emergency, Safety, and Health Services or Quality organizations, as appropriate. Plans, coordinates, and directs activities to meet demands of the Plant, encompassing such areas as Support Services, Operations, Human Resources, Program Management, Manufacturing, Finance, Environment, Safety, Health & Quality, Security & Emergency Operations, in accordance with effective management practices.
  • Performs inspection(s) to validate compliance of The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70, National Electrical Code (NEC) Requirements of facilities and equipment, as directed by the Electrical Safety Program Manager and the Pantex Electrical Contractor Authority Having Jurisdiction (ECAHJ).
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to the Electrical Safety Committee in areas of Electrical Safety and regulatory compliance as mandated by NFPA 70E, NEC 70 including Annex G as amended for use at Pantex, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910.269, OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) C-2 National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Performs duties with opportunity for exercise of initiative, independent judgment and discretion under limited supervision.
  • Maintains liaison and coordinates with representatives of design agencies, floating point operation (FPO), vendors, and contractors as required to ensure effective and necessary cooperation at all levels that will result in combined professional effort in fulfilling the Plant’s assigned mission.
  • Responsible for maintaining a thorough knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy (DOE), corporate and plant rules, regulations and plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
  • Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2A),and Management.
  • Facilitates and supports all plant safety initiatives and provides instruction in safety awareness and provides training while resolving issues and concerns within the organization.
  • Ensures that a feedback loop is maintained to communicate answers to issues, concerns and lessons learned in accordance with Integrated Safety Management (ISM) principals.
  • Respects a worker’s right to stop work when they feel their personal safety is jeopardized and takes responsibility to resolve the concern in a timely matter.
  • Attends and or conducts required safety meetings and training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree with: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience. (Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.)

Preferred Job Requirements
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Associate Degree in related discipline with a minimum 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Journeyman or Master Level State of Texas Electrical License.
  • At least 5 years’ field/working experience as a Licensed Journeyman or Master Electrician. (Documented).
  • Inspector must be a Certified National Electrical Code Inspector, or attain certification within 6 months of receiving the inspector’s position. International Code Council – (ICC) certification, or International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) certification.(Minimum - Commercial Electrical Inspector E2)

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 709. Medical requirements may apply.
