Job summary

ADM in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking an Electrical Reliability and Maintenance Specialist to lead electrical maintenance strategy across Cogeneration, Wet Mill, and Dry Grind operations. Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in industrial electrical maintenance with knowledge of low/medium voltage power distribution.

  • Strong diagnostic skills and familiarity with PM/PdM tools and CMMS software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and align PM/PdM programs across Cogeneration, Wet Mill, and Dry Grind areas.
  • Lead maintenance standards for motors, MCCs, VFDs, switchgear, and substations.
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting during major equipment failures and review repair methods.
  • Oversee third-party electrical contractors, define scopes, and audit performance for safety and quality.
  • Plan outages, manage spare parts strategy, and draft long-term asset replacement plans.
  • Lead root cause failure analysis for significant electrical events and drive corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, LOTO, Arc Flash, energized work standards, and OSHA.

Electrical Reliability and Maintenance Specialist - Cedar Rapids, I

Summary: The Electrical Reliability & Maintenance Specialist provides technical leadership and strategic oversight for electrical maintenance activities within the Dry Grind Ethanol operation. The primary objective of this position is to partner with the Electrical Superintendent to establish operational consistency, standardized maintenance practices, and reliable task execution across the Cogeneration facility, Wet Mill, and Dry Grind operations. While this role does not have direct reports, it provides critical technical leadership, safety oversight, and quality control for contractor-performed electrical maintenance work.

Specific Job Duties

Reliability Strategy & Standardization: Develop, implement, and align preventive and predictive maintenance (PM/PdM) programs at Dry Grind to ensure consistency in task execution across the Cogeneration, Wet Mill, and Dry Grind areas. Establish maintenance standards for motors, MCCs, VFDs, switchgear, substations, and power distribution systems.

Technical Leadership: Act as the subject matter expert for plant electrical systems. Provide hands‑on troubleshooting support during major equipment failures, review repair methods, and assist with capital upgrades and commissioning.

Contractor Management: Oversee third‑party electrical contractors. Define work scopes, prioritize tasks, and audit contractor execution to ensure high‑quality, safe, and procedurally compliant work.

Asset & Outage Planning: Collaborate with maintenance planners to prioritize electrical work orders, build comprehensive outage plans, manage the critical spare parts strategy, and draft long‑term asset lifecycle replacement plans.

Root Cause Analysis: Lead root cause failure analysis (RCA) for significant electrical events, identify reliability gaps, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Safety & Compliance: Champion ADM's safety culture. Ensure all electrical maintenance activities comply with NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Arc Flash Hazard Analysis, energized work standards, and OSHA regulations.

Preferred Skills
Experience:

Minimum of 5 years in industrial electrical maintenance with deep knowledge of low and medium voltage power distribution systems, MCCs, drives, motors, and transformers.

Education:

Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field; equivalent hands‑on industrial experience.

Technical Skills:

Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities; familiar with preventative/predictive maintenance tools (thermography, ultrasound, motor circuit analysis, etc) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (MAXIMO).

Environment

Primarily Monday - Friday, but available for operations outside of standard working hours. Work around dust and various chemicals. Stand for long periods of time, Walk Long Distances, Lift 50 lbs, Carry tools/ladders, Climb ladders / stairs.
