Job summary

Integrated Power Services (IPS) is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer focused on protection and power systems. You will design protection and control schematics for medium/high voltage systems, retrofit relays, and run power system studies to ensure reliability.

Travel to customer sites may be required for data collection and project support. The role requires 3+ years in power systems, understanding of arc flash and coordination studies, and proficiency in engineering tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 3+ years in power systems engineering, protective relaying, or electrical design.
• Knowledge of electrical protection systems and relay coordination.
• Experience performing arc flash and coordination studies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
• Ability to travel occasionally to customer sites.
• PE license preferred.
• Experience with SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, or similar study software preferred.
• Experience with SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens, Schweitzer, or equivalent protective relays preferred.
• Knowledge of utility, industrial, and critical power applications preferred.
• Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, and other applicable industry standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review protection and control schematics for medium- and high-voltage systems.
• Design and implement relay retrofit solutions for substations, industrial facilities, and utility applications.
• Create wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bill of materials.
• Develop relay setting files and protection philosophies per requirements.
• Support construction, modernization, and electrical infrastructure upgrades.
• Perform arc flash hazard analyses per NFPA 70E and IEEE standards.
• Conduct protective device coordination studies.
• Perform short-circuit, load flow, motor starting, and power quality studies.
• Develop engineering reports and technical recommendations.
• Utilize power system analysis software to model and evaluate systems.
• Provide technical support throughout project execution.
• Interface with customers to gather data and define requirements.
• Work with project teams to ensure on-time delivery.
• Review specs for compliance with codes and standards.
• Support commissioning as necessary.
• Travel to customer sites for site walks and data collection.
• Participate in technical meetings with stakeholders.
• Assist with troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
